I think this book would serve as a great teaching tool

I have read the book and I am not and never have I been a student of the author. Having said that, I picked it up because the notion of an academic book providing review and analysis of scandal, without sensationalizing the incidents or spinning them along party lines seems necessary, original, and long overdue quite honestly. This book is a well crafted tour of the story behind the headline and contextualizes the implications and fallout after our 24 news cycle has decided to move onto a Kardashian-type pop culture drama. For me, it's a study in human frailty on so many levels. We expect politicians to be a level above ... Sometimes, the power, greed, and ambitions that drive them to be politicians also drive them to self-destruct in the public eye, simply because they can't resist temptation or they don't think they'll get caught. I think this book would serve as a great teaching tool, or reference book for anyone interested in culture, sociology, and obviously politics.

Good resource.

This is a good resource if you want to get into Event Planning, or have found yourself in an Event Planning job, and want to learn about the core process, and get some tips for managing the process and increasing your professionalism. There aren't many event coordinating books out there that aren't totally outdated, but this is a good one. If you're looking at it, you should probably get it.

Another great read!

Mariah Stewart has been a favorite author since the publication of Moments In Time, her first book. I've enjoyed her stand-alone novels and all of her series, but the Chesapeake Diaries series is my favorite. Mariah has created a perfect setting for her characters and their stories and Driftwood Point is another terrific entry. I loved Lis and Alec and who wouldn't want GiGi for a great-grandmother? All of Mariah's characters are people you'd like to know. And St. Dennis? Well, it would be my #1 vacation destination spot.

Thanks, Mariah! I can't wait for the next one.

I am so blessed to have been a part of Mariah Stewart's amazing series, The Chesapeake Diaries from the very beginning and have lovingly enjoyed each of the novels that she introduces. I truly hope it never ends. Driftwood Point is the 10th novel to enter into the world of the residents of St. Dennis, a charming seaside community along the Chesapeake Bay. Once more readers are taken back to that small town sense of community and companionship you dream really exists in the world.

As the art display of Lisbeth Parker is about to make its debut in the small town, everyone is generally excited to have one of their own, now about to become a well-known name in the world of art. Even though she was raised along the Chesapeake Bay in the nearby Cannonball Island, her paintings are that of New York cityscapes and that of Central Park during the changing seasons. People are truly drawn to them in such a way but even her family wonders why someone who spent her whole life living on the Bay isn't drawn to capture the life of the island and its town before it soon is abandoned much like the beach cottages that lie desolate all over the small community.

She returns to spend some time figuring out why she no longer has the inspiration to paint anymore as many of her painting in her New Jersey apartment now sit vacant and unfinished. Perhaps its the change in her own life as she walked away from an engagement to a man she no longer loved. Is the island calling her back? She now is helping her 100-year-old great grandmother Ruby, run the general store on the island and finding some sort of inspiration she has been missing. Maybe it's time to renovate the family's deteriorating cottage along Driftwood Point and start over again. Whatever life is ready to hand her, she is more than ready.

Alec Jansen has had a crush on Lisbeth since the fifth grade and is more than thrilled when she moves back to Cannonball Island with her great-grandmother, but soon finds himself defending his actions to help her renovate a few things in the general store in lieu of payment by restoring an original skipjack that his family had made. She believes that Alec has taking advantage of her great-grandmother because she always believed the boat should stay as part of her family home. Now it just seems like things are changing and Lis can't do anything to stop them. Alec meanwhile has been hired by a land developer to look into the abandoned homes now all over Cannonball Island in the hopes of making a tidy profit off of buying them, demolishing them and rebuilding something more large and extravagant in their place and his eyes are set primarily on the 22 acres of Driftwood Point.

I received Driftwood Point by Mariah Stewart compliments of Simon and Schuster Publishers for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this novel in exchange for my personal and unbiased review. Coming back to St. Dennis has always been huge favorite of mine and this entire series would make for a great summer read. But trust me, while each can stand on its own, you won't know each of the resident's stories until you read them as they have moved or married within the town limits of St. Dennis. This is truly a charming and heart-warming series and one I am so excited to see whenever there is a new addition. By the way this one ends, looks like there is more in store for the residents of St. Dennis in the very near future. For me this one is another 5 out of 5 stars!

Cannonball Island

Oh, how I loved this book! The characters are so finely drawn that I just wanted to make friends with all of them. Liz & Alec are wonderful and everyone should have a Gigi in their family. Mariah seamlessly integrated the new characters from Cannonball Island with our old friends from St. Dennis so that we could catch up with them while getting to know new characters and a wonderful new location. This book is a MUST read!

Best how to draw book ever

As a novice product designer I was recently looking for a good book on how to draw. With hundreds of options, there were few books that actually taught me the stuff I really wanted to know. So I went through my personal library and found my copy of Draw the Looney Tunes. BAM. Jackpot.

Why would someone interested in product design care about a book on cartoon characters? Because this is what I learned:

How to start with the dynamics of the drawing and build detail from there.

How to add mass to simple lines.

How one moving part impacts the structure.

How major geometric structures work together to define the dynamics of the whole.

How perspective works. Finally! A book that teaches this in a way I both understand and care about.

And much more. There are a lot of surprising ways in which learning to draw Bugs Bunny translates into designing pretty much anything else you can imagine. I had a lot of fun working my way through this book and, unlike product design books and videos, didn't feel pressured to go buy $400 in Copic markers before I even started. All I needed was this book, a pencil, and a sketch pad.

Too bad this book is out of print. On the bright side, I suppose that gives those of us who have it an unfair advantage...

BEST TEACHING BOOK OUT THERE!

With all the cartooning books out there (and believe me I own most of them!) this has to be the best. I learned more from this book than from any other. This is the book Warner Brothers gave to their new graphic artists/cartoonists to teach them how to capture just the right look for new and existing character designs. I put the techniques into practice at work and found the results to be outstandingly awesome!

I really like how the instructions (ie text) are minimal and the image examples are plentiful. Creative people like me don't really enjoy reading pages of text. Just tell me what I need to know so I can get on with it. This book had the perfect balance between instructions and visual examples.

My copy was, in my opinion, rather expensive but after seeing the results I got out of the techniques I learned, I don't feel like I paid that much after all. It was cheaper than taking a college class!

This has been one of the greatest books I've ever bought, changed my way to draw, I guess in terms of drawing techniques does not contribute THAT much, however, the quotes of all important artists about drawing conception throughout history redefine how a "how to" book should be. I've always been a big fan of the Looney Tunes, the way they move, the way they tell a story, it is as though they were alive, and precisely, this is what this book is all about, bringing life to the characters you create. If you're interested on this book is because you like the Looney, and you'd like to give some of the loosenes and joy they've got to your own drawings. This books describes that some of the famous artists who were involved with the process of bringing life to the looney Tunes, in fact, they believed what they were creating was indeed alive... and I guess that's the best advice I got from that book...Everything you're creating is alive an you should always treat it with that in mind.

If you want to buy a book were you can learn how to draw the Looney Tunes, this is possible one of the best options you can get, but If you want to have a great reminder of how do you must feel when you draw something this is the best option I've you can come across ever.

Speech textbook

Cerritos College, Norwalk, California Speech communication department uses this textbook. Their department Chair was student of the author of this textbook. When depart chair was only a grad student at CSUF the professor who helped the department chair of Speech Department with her thesis for graduate degree was the author of this book and at the time Professor at CSUF graduate school. This is great book to learn from. Other than the readings, which I am reading Chapter 4 Keys to Understanding Cultural and Ethnic Identities, it's good to have other activities in class to help digest all the theories from the book with interactions in classroom amongst students.

Great rationale for understanding other cultures

I was assigned this text as an assignment. Written from an entirely secular viewpoint, the writers provide thorough rationale for today's culture to better understand how and why to relate and include other cultures in life, business, and day-to-day living.
As a Christian, I found this book a rich and rewarding plea for us to better serve, lead, and impact communities through the process of understanding and including--rather than isolating.

Well worth a look

I'm teaching a class in intercultural comm that uses another text. Within naming names, I'm really not fond of the other (widely used) book and have been very grateful for the strong comm. focus of this option. Although I'm using it as a supplementary text for developing course materials and lectures, I plan on using this as the assigned text when the opportunity for change arises.

Perfect book for my Psychiatry NBME exam, I buy every one in the series

Perfect book for my Psychiatry NBME exam. I buy case files for each of my medical rotations and this was one of the better ones. It was a very easy read and one that even an average consumer can pick up and read. The material is very relevant to the clerkship and even includes DSM-V in most of the cases. Along with this book, I supplemented First-Aid Psychiatry and I felt that both resources left me more than prepared for my NBME shelf exam. This is coming from a 3rd year medical student who just finished his psychiatry rotation as well as NBME exam within the past month

Great book. I get case files for rotations

Great book. I get case files for rotations, with the intent of doing 2-3 cases/day, and always end up doing about 20 cases by the end of the rotation lol. I did have it on me throughout the rotation, and found the pharma tables very useful, especially because we learn the trade names for USMLE and then you'll mostly hear the generic names during rotations, which is included on the tables. Finally, I don't plan on becoming a psychiatrist, but I will keep this book in my library anytime I need to reference, in case I have friends or family that ask for advice from me in the future.

Poor value

This book does not provide a system for learning kanji and remembering the meanings. It's mostly just blank squares for writing, like a notepad. This "Volume 1" only covers a tiny number of kanji (103). At that rate you would have to buy about 20 volumes just to cover the joyo kanji.
