I appreciate this book very much!!

I just bought this for my Kindle, and I have Eddie's first book, which I will re-read soon, as well. When the student is ready ... I felt that with all that I had why do I need something else. I have met the statements of many lottery jackpot winners, there are numerous stories where people prayed and won a lottery, of varying amounts, that literally saved them at the last minute from losing homes. Some stories go into a thought process, but most you simply glean. What is very common with many jackpot winners and others, is that they use quickpicks and they're not big lottery spenders -- it's affirmations, visualizations (together or not) with a lot of faith and trust.

This book has shown me, through these experiences, where I still need work in my overall transformation, and the amazing amount of what I am doing that is in line with manifesting great things that I desire and require, and that I totally deserve. I really appreciated the second story, because this is someone who manifested good while the outer appearance and circumstances was definitely difficult. Walking "by faith and not by sight" is, I feel, the most difficult part and the second part is dealing with negative people -- the worst of which can be those closest to you, especially if they are part of the religion you grew up with, and you made the mistake of discussing stuff with them. I got called a liar and a heretic and everything in-between by someone I love. Lesson learned -- and you'll hear Eddie tell you this -- zip your lips. On the other hand, in reading lottery stories both in the States and in EuroMillions, people have endured ridicule, because they didn't keep it to themselves, but they obviously managed to withstand the naysayers and realize the truth of this law.

I truly feel I was led to this book today, after listening to Eddie speak on YouTube and not even knowing that this second book existed, and I've been going through thoughts of discouragement, and what I had wasn't enough at the moment.. So this has helped me immensely. I could even tell by reading the one story the exact books Melissa must have read, because I recognized her wonderful affirmations. About four months ago I, too, started writing affirmations and statements down -- just seemed a natural thing.

So, in short this book gave me encouragement and a big boost -- and that, my friend, is gold!

The greatest "down to earth" book on LAO

This is the greatest "practical" book on LOA that I have read so far, so thank you Eddie for sharing with us the real techniques behind LAO. It is easy to get lost in all the books that explains how you should think and act, but the fact is that in the end of the day you give up because you feel that LAO doesn't work for you, This book explains, with examples about real people who successfully applied LAO in their lives, that LAO works for everyone as long as you are serious and consistent about it, and if you really believe and apply in your daily life positive thinking and gratitude. And that even if it takes time to manifest, you just have to be persistent, keep believing and trust yourself. Great...just by reading all the stories in the book I got greater confidence that LAO really works. Thank you again for this great book, the work you have put in it and that you share it with all of us.

Another Winner from Eddie Coronado

This is another helpful book from author and lottery winner Eddie Coronado.

I've been following the suggestions I gleaned from his first book for about 5 months and this stuff REALLY WORKS if you are consistent in your efforts. I have had more opportunities of various kinds come my way in the past few months, than I have in a LONG time, before that. This also includes winning consistently more $$ on tickets I've bought and other prizes too.

If you are in need of some encouragement or direction how to make the LOA really work in your own life, this is definitely a worthwhile book to check out.

I'm taking off 1 star as I would have enjoyed reading a few more true life examples of lottery winners, being included. I did enjoy Eddie's first book more as it's very in-depth and I continue to re-read parts of it, when I'm in need of a "boost" to keep myself on track with affirmations, visualizations etc...both books are well worth the small amount that the eBooks cost and the rewards can be huge and long-term too!

The Best 996 Service Manual You Can Buy

I run a Porsche Technical Discussion website.
I bought the Porsche factory manuals (all 17 volumes in 3-ring binders) in 2000 for about $600. I then spend about $100/year each for the next 6 years to get updates. My factory manuals ended up about costing $1200. Porsche stopped printing manuals a few years ago and a set was well over $1200 at that time.

That does not really cover everything though - you also need the OBD II manuals for DME 5.2.2. DME 7.2, and DME 7.8 depending on your model year. When I bought my OBD II manuals (again in 2000) they were about $200 each. So to cover all models it cost me about $600. Porsche also stopped printing these manuals a few years ago and at the time each was over $800.

So all totaled I likely spent over $2000 for the factory service and OBD II manuals for the 996.

I pre-ordered the manual and purchased it here. Later Bentley sent me a review copy (based on my Porsche technical website) - so this review would have happened either way (good or bad).

For $138 (here on Amazon) you get the Bentley Porsche 911 Carrera Service Manual (996) hardbound manual with photos that the factory manuals never had - and from I can see so far 99% plus of the information that is in the factory manuals. BOTH the service manuals and OBD II manuals.

The manual layout is excellent logically each section from General Information and Maintenance to Wiring Diagrams and OBD II. Roughly 11 sections with great detail and photos the factory manuals never had. 1024 pages (and over 7.6 pounds) the manual is well composed and covers even some of the more tricky tasks. The photos are certainly worth a thousand words many times over.

Clear, concise, detailed and from what I can see complete - this IS the service manual to have if you own or work on the 996 series cars. I highly recommend it.

I've owned & used better Bentleys, bu this is the best for the 996

I've bought Bentley manuals for many other cars, mostly BMWs and they all have been far more detailed and useful than this one. The electrical drawings in the 996 are very good, and hard to come by otherwise. The common repair tutorials are very lacking. When the manual has text that says "Remove connector", instead of "Hold connecter HERE, and squeeze Here while pulling", well what good is it? Sometimes lacking wrench/socket size needed, and just lists torques at end of section, with description that doesn't always make it clear what fastener is referred to, stuff like that. A lot of it appears to be just reprinted material from the 996 factory manual. In the water pump removal, for instance, it actuall says and shows "Engine shown removed from car for clarity", yet the WHOLE point of the manual is HOW to remove the water pump while the engine is still in the car (duh!) and they totally skip any helpful advice. Far better instructions for stuff like that are on the 996 forums at Rennlist and Renntech. But nice to have a quick reference all in one place, that can be thumbed through, so I still recommend it for the home mechanic. For just over $110, it is a reasonable resource, with resale value.

Finally a service manual for us home mechanics.

If you have some metric tools, time and a little talent then you should take care of you 996 as much as possible without
taking it in. A lot of fixes and repairs in this huge manual are beyond me but one routine maintenance or repair will pay for this book.

Some reviewer complained that it has lots of white blank semi-pages. Well... that is because any mechanic knows that you write
down you personal notes to help with the next repair job. What a tool.

The Good Earth is one of the most famous novels of all time. It won for the author both the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize for Literature. It was the best selling fiction work in 1931 and 1932. Buck lived most of her life in China up until to the time she wrote this book. When Nixon went to China to visit Chairman Mao in 1972, Peal Buck wanted to go along too as translator. She was heartbroken when Mao's wife denounced Pearl Buck as an “American cultural imperialist". Mao whom Pearl Buck had initially supported would not allow her to visit. This book that Pearl Buck wrote had been banned in China and nobody had read or was allowed to read this book.

About the Author
Pearl S. Buck lived most of her life in China up until to the time she wrote this book. She was born on June 26, 1892 as Pearl Sydenstricker in Hillsboro, West Virginia. Her parents were religious missionaries with the Southern Presbyterian Church. They had lived in China since 1880. They already had several children who had died in infancy in China. They were fortunate in that they came to America just before giving birth to Pearl. They returned to China with Pearl when she was only three months old. Pearl lived in China for the next 40 years, except to attend college. She was fourth of seven children, but only one of three to survive to adulthood. She attended Randolph Macon Women's College in Lynchburg Virginia for four years. In 1917 she married John Lossing Buck, an agricultural economist living in China. They lived in a rural province which became the inspiration for The Good Earth. The couple had a baby in 1921 which was born with PKU and was profoundly retarded. Pearl had a hysterectomy when a tumor was found during the delivery and thus could not have any more children. They adopted a child and taught at Nanking University. Pearl found she could get paid for writing and began writing for a living. She was published in The Nation, Atlantic Monthly and other publications. Her first novel was East Wind, West Wind. After The Good Earth, she never had another big hit but there was always a market for her books. Pearl Buck died on March 6, 1973 at age 80.

COMPLEX...COMPELLING...CLASSIC...

This 1932 Pulitzer Prize winning novel is still a standout today. Deceptive in its simplicity, it is a story built around a flawed human being and a teetering socio-economic system, as well as one that is layered with profound themes. The cadence of the author's writing is also of note, as it rhythmically lends itself to the telling of the story, giving it a very distinct voice. No doubt the author's writing style was influenced by her own immersion in Chinese culture, as she grew up and lived in China, the daughter of missionaries.

This is the story of the cyclical nature of life, of the passions and desires that motivate a human being, of good and evil, and of the desire to survive and thrive against great odds. It begins with the story of an illiterate, poor, peasant farmer, Wang Lung, who ventures from the rural countryside and goes to town to the great house of Hwang to obtain a bride from those among the rank of slave. There, he is given the slave O-lan as his bride.

Selfless, hardworking, and a bearer of sons, the plain-faced O-lan supports Wang Lung's veneration of the land and his desire to acquire more land. She stays with him through thick and thin, through famine and very lean times, working alongside him on the land, making great sacrifices, and raising his children. As a family, they weather the tumultuousness of pre-revolutionary China in the 1920s, only to find themselves the recipient of riches beyond their dreams. At the first opportunity, they buy land from the great house of Hwang, whose expenses appear to be exceeding their income.

With the passing of time, Wang Lung buys more and more land from the house of Hwang, until he owns it all, as his veneration of the land is always paramount. With O-lan at this side, his family continues to prosper. His life becomes more complicated, however, the richer he gets. Wang Lung then commits a life-changing act that pierces O-lan's heart in the most profoundly heartbreaking way.

As the years pass, his sons become educated and literate, and the family continues to prosper. With the great house of Hwang on the skids, an opportunity to buy their house, the very same house from where he had fetched O-lan many years ago, becomes available. Pressed upon to buy that house by his sons, who do not share Wang Lung's veneration for the land and rural life, he buys the house. The country mice now have become city mice.

This is a potent, thematically complex story, brimming with irony, yet simply told against a framework of mounting social change. It is a story that stands as a parable in many ways and is one that certainly should be read. It illustrates the timeless dichotomy between the young and the old, the old and the new, and the rich and the poor. It is no wonder that this beautifully written book won a Pulitzer Prize and is considered a classic masterpiece. Bravo!

An outstanding novel

This novel won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1932. The author later won the Nobel Prize in literature. It is a story that sticks in your mind long after you have read the novel.
The setting for the story is in China at an indefinite time, perhaps circa 1930. An illiterate farmer buys himself a wife and has several children before being forced off the land by a drought. When a mob storms a wealthy man's house, the farmer's wife finds a cache of jewels which they steal. Jewels can be traded for money and land, and the farmer becomes rich, educating his sons and rising above his previous station.
Wealth leads to decadence, and he eventually becomes one of the wealthy individuals that he previously envied, supplanting a family who had previously decayed. What goes around, comes around.

interesting story told by an indifferent author

The Glock is indeed a cultural phenomenon in America, and an innovative product (at least when it first appeared), with an interesting story behind it. So I was looking forward to reading this book. In some ways I was satisfied, but in others I ultimately disliked the book. My review is based on a pre-release sample of this book, so there is some chance that the published version is slightly modified, but I am sure that most of it will be the same. I hope you find this review useful.

In a nutshell, the author manages to capture the story of Glock - the company, the pistol, and the man behind it all. However, he also inserts a lot of commentary about guns in America which detracts from the story.

THE GOOD:

- You do not need any knowledge about Glock or firearms to read this book. The author describes in detail how revolvers and semi-autos work and how Glock is different.
- The book follows the major (and even lesser known) developments in the firearms market and legislation in the US throughout the history of Glock as a company. It starts with the 1986 Miami FBI shootout which precipitated the large-scale move away from revolvers towards semi-auto pistols. It covers things like the assault weapons ban and funny deals that Glock (the company) was involved in to try to buy back large capacity magazines and make a profit. Who knew that Rahm Emanuel, then a staffer in the White House and now mayor of Chicago, was involved in getting the major gun manufacturers to agree to voluntary safety locks?
- Gaston Glock and the people around him are well described with vivid vignettes. For example, how even after he was financially successful, he would apparently collect those little sample shampoos from hotels. Or how a hot stripper was used to promote the 10mm Glock.
- The author provides even handed treatment of most issues. For example, he admits that in the Miami shootout there was plenty of human error, and it wasn't simply about the good guys having inferior weapons. He admits that the Glock is not perfect and there have been numerous known malfunctions which the gun's aficionados turn a blind eye to, and the company itself tries to suppress through buying the defective units and silently settling cases out of court.
- Essentially Glock was in the right place at the right time, and this comes through really well in the book. Gaston Glock was a small-scale manufacturer of knives and simple household items when he overheard that the Austrian army was looking for a new pistol. Then there was plenty of controversy around the gun being undetectable by airport scanners (not true; turned out that employees manning the scanners were asleep once, and a Pentagon employee had an axe to grind), or sales to Arab dictators. Or NYC specifically banning the Glock, while the NYC police commissioner and firearms trainers flaunted the ban and carried the gun privately (until the press caught on). And lastly, the Glock was in many way similar to the revolvers it ended up replacing: simple and reliable, more so than its competitors.

THE SILLY:

- There are some non-sequitur statements like "Glock is the Google of modern civilian handguns" or mentioning how one police department wanted to upgrade their firepower so they went from .357 Magnum to 9mm.

THE UGLY:

- The author received some shooting lessons directly from Massad Ayoob, a well regarded shooting expert. In return, he makes Ayoob look silly for choosing to carry a weapon (never mind that Ayoob is a former police officer and minor celebrity who probably has good reasons to care about his safety). Referring to Ayoob and his girlfriend, the author sarcastically opines: "Like many gun owners who carry, they find last night's local television news report of an armed robbery at the neighborhood's 7-11 more compelling than the statistically small chance of being the unlucky customer paying for a Slurpee when a bad guy attacks."
- The author has some pervasive anti-gun bias that shows up even when he discusses facts and data which are inconclusive or contradict his opinion. The last chapter before the epilogue tries to discuss the impact of the Glock and handgun ownership on American society. When discussing the recent Virginia Tech massacre, the author says about the shooter: "Whether his choice of the Austrian brand raised the horrific body count remains a matter of speculation. It probably did." Later on he quips "A national ten-round cap seems like a logical compromise that lawful gun owners could easily tolerate." And then on the next page he admits that "The total number of guns in private hands in the United States is at an all-time high, yet violent crime is back down to where it was in the early 1970s. The murder rate is even lower - at the level of the early 1960s." Basically, he ends the book with a strange and contradictory chapter which tries to be an overarching synthesis of gun ownership in America, but ends up looking unfocused and bad.

VERDICT:

I wonder who this book was written for. The author works for Bloomberg and lives in New York City, where it is practically impossible to own a gun, and he clearly does not pretend he cares about guns. So maybe this book is for other big city yuppies who want to know about this Glock thing rappers sing about. For that audience, the book is great. However, for those who own a Glock (I do not, by the way): this may not be your book. The book is still valuable because of the investigative details it presents, but it is clear that the author is not very passionate about his subject.

There is plenty of interesting history in this book, especially about Gaston Glock and his company. I just wish the author had focused on that and avoided trying to analyze guns in America, a larger topic which is controversial and clearly beyond his grasp.

Compelling, And Surprisingly, Nearly Totally Neutral.

“Glock” is that rarest of beasts—a mainstream writing in which the author makes zero errors about guns, and takes almost no political positions with respect to guns. This is the most neutral book on the topic I have ever seen, which is surprising given that the author, Paul Barrett, worked and works for the violently and maliciously anti-gun Michael Bloomberg. It is not true, as several other reviewers claim, that “Glock” is pro-gun control. It is a history book, not a book of politics, or, for that matter, a technical book on Glock handguns.

The book is a straight chronological history interwoven with personality profiles of all the leading players. The one personality looming over everything, of course, is Gaston Glock—sometime machinist of car radiators, door hardware, and knives. The latter led to contacts with the Austrian Ministry of Defense, and when the Austrian military began searching for a new handgun, Glock designed a revolutionary gun from the ground up. The rest, as they say, is history—and a history well covered by this book.

“Glock” is suitable for pretty much any reader. If you want a basic primer on handgun manufacture and use, this is your book. If you want a cultural history of handgun sales and marketing in America in the past three decades, this is your book. If you want an accurate view on the competing political views of gun control proponents and defenders of gun rights, this is your book. And if you just want an interesting story with interesting (and mostly flawed) characters, this is also your book.

Very, very occasionally Barrett (whose name, ironically, is the same as the main brand of .50 caliber, that is, very powerful, rifles sold today) slips in his understanding. “Why, gun-control advocates ask, do civilians need a variant of the military rifles carried by American troops? The answer relates to aesthetics and psychology.” Maybe it does, but more directly, it relates to the reason that the Second Amendment exists—so that citizens can, if necessary, fight American troops in a possible future tyranny with weapons that give them a chance in skirmish warfare and the ability to acquire heavier weapons. Barrett doesn’t grasp this. For the same reason, he sees no reason not to limit magazine capacity, ignoring both the military necessity of large magazines and that even in civilian (police and citizen) armed self-defense large capacity magazines have frequently proven necessary. But he does grasp, for the correct technical and practical reasons, the silliness of modern arguments over so-called “assault weapons.” And these slips are few and far between; they do not detract from the book.

In 2013, when this book was published, Barrett saw correctly that the Left had “abandoned gun control.” Like the dog returning to his vomit, the Left has since latched onto gun control again. As they say, gun control is like crack to Democrats—they know it’s bad for them, but they can’t help themselves. We’ll see how that plays out in two months, in November 2016. But whatever the future holds for gun grabbers, this book will stand for a long time as a readable, fair, and interesting summary exposition of the modern American handgun industry and culture.

I don't like long drawn out books, this one was an easy read and stated a lot of facts concerning Gaston Glock and his amazing story of conceiving possibly the most widely used pistol in history...
One thing that you will read about is the arrogance of mr. Glock; he definitely does not sound like a nice person at all, even firing his own family! But his arrogance paid off and it helps that he was at the right time in the right place to take over the American pistol market. Interesting read especially if you own a Glock pistol.

Mike Estall bought his first Tiger Cub in 1956. Since then he has completed a succession of restoration projects (mostly Tiger Cubs or Terriers) and has researched and collected a vast amount of technical information on these postwar lightweights. He now runs the Tiger Cub and Terrier Register and a worldwide information service for Cub & Terrier owners.

Triumph Tiger Cub Bible

This is a thorough, comprehensive, and well illustrated history of this motorcycle, from the initial design philosophy, through the engineering development, to the marketing and competition exploits, both in Britain and the USA, its primary export market. There is insight into some of the key personalities involved, and interesting photographs and descriptions of one or two experimental prototypes of machines that were never put into production. The appendices give both detailed photographs and amazingly complete technical specifications of the many models and variations of this motorcycle, from Bonneville streamliners to French Army bikes. Anyone proposing to restore one of these machines will find this book invaluable. It is fair to say that there is nothing that anyone could wish to know about the Tiger Cub that is not in this book. The only caveat I have is that the amount of technical information may be overkill for the casual reader, this is an enthusiast's book.
