An accurate look into the male mind

Not that I've personally ever cheated before, but I know guys who have and this book is very accurate in its analysis of how men think, and why they may become motivated to cheat.

That said, I'd also be interested to read a book on Why Women Cheat, because stats show they cheat about as much as men do, and often for different reasons.

Ahead of their time - How the Nearings created their good life.

Although I really am enjoying reading this book, it describes the alternative life-style for the 1940s to 1960s, and therefore a little dated to be given a 5 star rating. Helen and Scott Nearing left New York city to live simply and self-sufficiently in remote Vermont. They grew their own food, built their house and farm buildings with local stone, lived without electricity or telephone, cut their own woods for fuel and gathered maple sugar to exchange for essentials (eg cement). They worked hard every morning leaving the afternoons free for recreation. They welcomed visitors (though the visitors had to work hard too). They used no animals, were strictly vegetarian and did not drink alchohol or caffeine drinks. They were never ill and both lived to a very old age.

This is a rare gem: One of those books I wish I'd read much younger in life, when I had more years ahead to implement many of the propositions and principles described in this book. A jobless couple traipses out to the woods of southern Vermont in the depths of the Great Depression intent on creating a life of security, satisfaction, improvement of society and a 4-hour workday. They pull it off and they tell you how! Given that Helen and Scott Nearing were in their fifties when they first made their exodus to the woods, there's much here for readers of all ages. Get this book.

I read this book more than 15 years ago, a university student in Korea -of course in Korean- where everything was rushing to development or money, without much time to pause and think where we are...
We thought that we will be better off -yes it's true in many ways, but we believe we lost something: a simple life harmonized with surroundings including not nature, but also with neighborhood.
I may be overestimating but for me, this book affected my life as much as Walden and Laozi (yes, I was 23 years old, and this book was more vivid and real for me than book written some hundreds or -even!- thousands years ago )

Now I bought this book and read again, I feel more clearly what this couple wanted to say, not only because it is in original language but also the world we live now -rushing to a place of materialism without knowing why we really have to do- makes this book even more compelling.

Great (small) coffee table book for your fashion lover!

My wife has an affinity for fashion books, and wanted to begin growing her collection. This is the first book I purchased to get her collection started. She loves the book, and has added it to our coffee table.

The hardcover book has a bit of texture to the cover, and is printed on very nice paper.

As the title states, this is a great little book to get for your loved one as a "just because" gift. It's priced great, and with Prime you can't beat the free shipping!

Amazon also has special boxes that they use for their books, so you're not getting some huge box just for a book. Good job Amazon!

This book is suitable for me because i'm learning in fashion. The words in book is simple, easy to understand its meanings. Furthermore, I can learn the special words in fashion only. This is not your normal SK

I don't typically write reviews about books. I've read close to 20 SK books in the last year and a half and over more in my life...this is so unlike his normal character as a writer that it's unnerving. I've read IT, the Stand, 'Salem's Lot, Carrie, Dark Tower series 1-7.5(?) - everything chronologically before this book and tons of newer stuff (I'm working back through his catalogue from start to finish). Nothing compares to this. Prepare for the darkest form of horror. I can't with good conscience recommend anyone to read this book. It gave me nightmares every night that I read it. I woke up thinking about it, and couldn't get it out of my head. I'm reading something else as fast as I can...can't wait to get back to the basic SK. Nothing else holds a candle to this.

Playfully small yet delightfully pleasing...

Despite the purple and green book cover, this book is not about a friendly dinosaur. This was the second read in our book club. Everyone was in agreement that the smell of the book was good and arrived still smelling new (props to the Amazon warehousing crew). The book's pages were slightly thicker than bible pages, but will refrain from bending with proper care. We speculate the paper to be comprised of mostly North-Western Douglas Fir (jk lol). The cover was not quite structurally sound and did bend permanently at approximately 36° from general use. We would have preferred a Sans Serif font in a slightly larger type face; although the printing puts the Gutenberg press to shame. The margin size was playfully small yet delightfully pleasing. The book was thick but binding creasing is avoidable if you don't treat the book like a barbarian. Since reading the book, we found out this was made into a movie. The dimensions of the VHS were significantly more pleasurable and therefore Pet Sematary is recommended in VHS format over mass production paperback.

Masterful story about death, love and grief

Pet Sematary has always been one of my favorite Stephen King stories. I’m still terrified just thinking about certain scenes from the movie. I hadn’t read the book since I was a kid so I figured I was long overdue for a re-read.

This is, famously, the book that King himself considers the most frightening he has ever written. He has expressed regret over publishing it, claiming that it’s too dark, too bleak, that it goes too far.

I understand why he feels that way. Reading Pet Sematary as an adult has been a horrifying experience. I’m now at a point in my life where I have an acute fear of mortality—both my own and that of those I love. Pet Sematary exploits that very fear.

We all know what it’s like to lose a loved one. What if there was a way to bring them back? Would you do it, even if it meant opening a door into the depths of darkness and terror? We all want to feel like we have some semblance of control, like we’re not at the whim of an indifferent universe where death can strike at any time. But at what cost?

As Pet Sematary’s Louis Creed grapples with these very questions, we feel an overwhelming sense of dread. We know tragedy and horror await he and his family, and all we can do is sit back and watch it unfold, secretly hoping that if given the chance, we wouldn’t make the same mistakes. After all, as Louis’s neighbor Jud warns, “sometimes dead is better.”

Pet Sematary had me in its grip from the first few pages and never let up. It’s a masterful story about death, love, grief and the hopelessness of trying to escape the will of the universe.

These strategies are lifesavers! THE book for teachers trying to keep up with all of the demands on today's educators.

I was fortunate enough to preview "The Together Teacher" and accompanying strategies as a participant in one of Maia's professional development workshops. For teachers, Maia's book is to organization and efficient time management what "Teach Like A Champion" is to instructional strategies. This book is full of bite sized, immediately useful, and highly effective tools. No "first go to the office supply store and spend $200" here. You can read a page or a whole chapter at a time and walk away with something that can be done tomorrow to help you approach your job more efficiently. Maia's writing style helps readers understand which strategies will make the greatest initial impact, while also including strategies to implement if you've already got most systems under control or once you've gotten the big things together.

I like to think of myself as more organized than most (some might say, ahem, Type A), but Maia's book still had plenty of tips to fine tune what was already working for me *without* being preachy, pushing certain materials/products, or making sweeping general suggestions that nobody needs to pay $$ for. Maia does a great job explaining the 'how' and 'why' as well as the 'what' of every strategy, and provides examples of how to adapt a strategy to different situations. The book covers everything from how to manage the deluge of e-mail teachers receive to how to maximize planning periods. I never realized so much could actually get done in the 45 min. my students are at gym, but with Maia's strategies I am spending much less time staring at my "organized" to-do list pretending to be productive, and much more time actually getting things done! Little things that I didn't even realize were wasting my time -- like checking e-mail when I didn't actually have time to process any of it, or looking through 10 different spiral notebooks for one phone number -- I've been able to eliminate, which allows me to spend much more time mentally present with my students and focusing on providing great instruction.

Nobody likes being (or working with) a frazzled teacher. Maia's strategies help me juggle everything without losing my cool or, as Maia puts it, "living in fear of dropped balls". I feel more collected waking up for work each day and have more "me time" because my time is better budgeted. As a result, my students, co-workers, family, and friends are also pretty thankful I've read this book and used these strategies. ;) You won't be disappointed.

Generic, but useful information

I wish I could give this book 3 1/2 stars. The parts of the book that I could use (the CD templates, and some of the text) was easily four star material, but because the information relevant to me was few and far between, I had to go with the three star review. The included CD of templates is helpful, but generic. The actual book contains some good advice, but much of it is geared toward teachers in a charter school environment. Even though I teach students in a public, high school technology center, I was able to find some usable information in this book, it just took more time to locate and isolate it. Overall, I feel that this book is geared to a very specific kind of teacher. If you are a teacher in a charter school and have little to no teaching experience, then this book will probably be invaluable to you. If you teach in a non-charter style school, if you have several years of teaching under your belt, or if you attended a good, comprehensive, teaching/education program, then you will have to adjust the information accordingly. For those of us who have taught for years, good, basic, information is there for us, you just have to dig for it.
