Prior to that he held a wide range of leadership positions in the Kingdom's national oil company, Saudi Aramco. He was the first Saudi national to be named President of the company in 1984 and became the first Saudi CEO in 1988. Al-Naimi joined the company, then called Aramco, as an office boy in 1947. A Bedouin, he was born in the deserts of eastern Arabia in 1935.

About the Author
His Excellency Ali Ibrahim Al-Naimi was Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from 1995 to May 2016. He is a member of the Cabinet of the Council of Ministers and the Supreme Economic Council. From 1995 until 2015, he was Chairman of the Kingdom's national oil company, Saudi Aramco. He is also Chairman of the Saudi Geological Society and of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. He is routinely named on international power lists, including the Time World's 100 Most Influential People and The Times's GulfPower25.

Fascinating memoir from Saudi oil chief, whose voice moved markets

Fascinating memoir from one who could arguably be called the world's oil chief for over two decades. The book takes a look at Al-Naimi's life from poor being born into a poor nomadic Bedouin family in the 1930s, to serving as the CEO of Saudi Aramco, the world's largest oil company, to serving as Saudi Arabia's powerful oil minister from 1995 to May 2016.

Al-Naimi's autobiography is fascinating to read from both a political and economic perspective, particularly his now some-what questionable decision to let Saudi Arabia ramp up oil production at all costs in Nov. 2014 just as oil markets were being saturated. The result of that decision has been to help put in place one of the worst oil market crashes in a generation, in spite of the fact that U.S. shale oil production actually started the over-supply quandary.

A fascinating passage from his book comes when Al-Naimi writes that one of his aides asked him in November 2014, what was the chance of leading non-OPEC countries Russia, Mexico, Kazakhstan and Norway cutting oil production.

"I held up my right hand and made the sign for zero," he writes.

At the time of his books release, the prospect of an oil production cut still looks pretty dismal.

Incredible resource

I used to think about testing in terms of just an A/B split test. The most adventurous I got was testing two variables two ways simultaneously. After reading this book I can see how to conduct simultaneous tests of a dozen or so variables. This is truly eye-opening experimental design material. And the marketing subject matter is all the more relevant for those web marketers among us.

The book is straight forward and focused with a series of incrementally more advanced methods so you can match the appropriate method to the situation you want to test. So whether you want to do a full factorial analysis or a fractional factorial experiment, after reading this material you'll know the strengths and weaknesses of each as well as the right situation to employ them. I have not seen this material anywhere else.

The book is advanced stuff, but entirely approachable. This does not mention AdWords or Google Web Site Optimizer, but the methods are entirely consistent with applications in those fields.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to extract more value from testing. There is a better way to test and the methods are right here.

One of a kind resource

Efficient experimental design techniques are known and applied in many fields, but marketing has lagged behind. A/B, Champion/Challenger, one-factor-at-a-time tests are much more prevalent in marketing than carefully planned tests that take advantage of the efficiencies inherent in factorial treatment structure. This book is a solid (and very readable) reference that should go a long way to changing that. If you know there's a better way to do your marketing tests, but can't get your head around the manufacturing, agricultural, or psychology examples in every other design text out there, then this is the book for you. If you don't know there's a better way to plan your marketing tests, read this before you competition does!

About the Author
Percussionist Samuel Z. Solomon has been responsible for dozens of world premieres of solo and small ensemble works. With saxophonist Eric Hewitt, he is co-founder of the Yesaroun? Duo; the Duo has been featured in recitals all over the northeast United States, in Italy, and in Cuba. Mr. Solomon made his Carnegie Hall debut in February of 2000, performing the world premiere of John Mackey?s Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra as guest soloist with the New York Youth Symphony. In December 1999 he was featured in Lincoln Center?s Alice Tully Hall, performing the American premiere of Iannis Xenakis?s final composition, O-Mega for percussion solo and chamber orchestra, with the New Juilliard Ensemble. Mr. Solomon spent six summers at Tanglewood, three as a Fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center, and six years at Juilliard, receiving two degrees. He lives in New York City.

an excellent companion to standard orchestration texts

This book is an excellent companion to the standard orchestration texts one might buy, such as Adler or Forsyth. It goes into great detail about all of the instruments, sticks, notation, etc. Basically anything you could need to start writing for percussion, which isn't often covered in great detail in other books. It's very nice to now have a reference that doesn't gloss over the percussion and gives very good insights into writing for this large and complex body of instruments.

I am a concert music composer. One of the things I like about being such a composer in the 21th-century is the abundance of percussion instruments and complex rhythms available to us. However, writing and notating these percussion parts is also a challenge, unique to the 21th-century, and we must have the guidance and assistance of professional percussionist. "How to Write for Percussion" is now my new guide to notating composing for percussion. I am enjoying this book very much.

This book is what all the other reviews say, it is a must for ANYONE, percussionints, composers, friends, family, your grandma who likes to compose the occasional snare drum trio on the weekends, ANYONE who loves percussion and wants the most informative source on composing methods for it. The Human Journey Main idea book.

This is a wonderful supplement to the text. I never had a workbook, so this gave me more options. It is great for the students to use the book as a research tool to answer the questions as well. In these times with great emphasis on reading comprehension this is a great way to enhance learning.

With its easy-to-use index and definitive explanations, this third edition makes life simpler for writers, editors, and proofreaders. You may never need to know about frontispieces and imprimaturs, but if you deal with words, this is a wonderfully edifying, reassuring fount of clarity and wisdom.

Fascinating and informative, only minor parts of it are dated

If you're a writer or editor or just someone who loves books and the English language, get this book. Even if it's just for browsing and historical interest, you'll likely love it. I picked up one that was "used, like new" and it has been well worth the price.

Simply put, Word into Type covers everything there was to say about making a book in the 1970s, from manuscript structure, to copyediting, to grammar points, to references and indexes (yes, I meant that instead of "indices"), to details of how manuscript review works from draft to galley to proof. Most of that information is the same today, as books, English grammar, and style are mostly the same. The quaint bits about things like leading (spacing and bars used in old typesetting) are interesting and detract very little. I'd say about 90% of the content is applicable today -- and since it is over 500 pages, that's a lot.

Compared to the Chicago guide, Word into Type is more comprehensive on the process and more readable. It serves as less of a reference than the Chicago guide and does not answer every question about every kind of academic citation. Thus, I find that the two work well together.

Here's an example. Last night I read the section on how to make an index, which is something I need to do soon for a project. Skillin explains how and why to do this starting from the page proofs, which is something I've been told before with the explanation why. She then suggests using index cards -- OK, that's quaint and probably not applicable today -- and then proceeds into superb guidance on exactly how to construct a useful index and tips on many of the kinds of points that will come up (e.g., which words to lead, how to index multiple page sections, and so forth). Overall, some of that is applicable to my project and some is not, but she gives enough of the overall context and structure of the task -- most of which has not changed in 40 years -- that I learned a lot and will be better prepared.

Having said that, don't expect it to read like a novel or a popular book about grammar. It is a reference, albeit one that is more narrative and enjoyable than most. I use Words into Type mostly as a book I love to browse and read sections randomly, whereas I only look at the Chicago guide when I need a specific style point. I'm considering to order more copies to give to writer friends.

Information on the non-existent fourth edition!

I recently bought a replacement copy of this must-have guide (much better than Chicago, I'm afraid). Before that I'd been doing research to find a copy of an alleged fourth edition (since the third was from 1974!). The mysterious fourth ed. proved impossible to find despite having an ISBN number. I tracked down the author, retired Oklahoma State University Professor Thomas Warren, and asked him directly what was going on. Here's his reply:

"Prentice-Hall cancelled the contract years ago, and even after that, the title appeared on Amazon, P-H listings, and even had an ISBN number. There is no 4th edition as far as I know. Sorry to disappoint you."

Why on earth would Prentice-Hall have canceled the contract? Maybe we should start a campaign to get this new edition published. Surely there's a readership for it!

Should be on every editor's and writer's bookshelf

Despite being published way back in 1974, every editor and writer worth his or her salt should have a copy of Words into Type. The advice throughout is clear and succinct, with before and after examples aplenty. Words into Type covers many grammatical and style issues that other style books fail to address and is also far easier to use than the Chicago Manual or Follet's Modern American Usage. Every section shines; one of the highlights is the "Use of Words" section, which, like every other section, covers an enormous amount of ground and is essential reading for anyone in the business of writing or editing. I highly recommend this book; you will not be disappointed. Surprisingly little of it is out of date (mostly just the section on typography). Over and over again, I find myself turning to this book for answers to tricky questions of style or grammar. Well worth the money!

Good book, Low printing quality

I have no question about the content. It is a great book written by famous authors in this field. However, the printing quality of the book (that I received) is not good. I guess that it is a print on demand version and came out from an inkjet printer (not a laser printer), so a lot pictures are not clear. A little bit disappointed, the price does not match my expectation.

Thorough and Informative

This book helped me understand the field of additive manufacturing. I really appreciated the history and how thorough the book is. I don't have a materials background and still could still understand everything. Wonderful book!

Karen Dawisha is the Walter E. I remember when I first came across this book many years ago. I was intrigued. I practiced what I could from the book, then took a beginner's class in TFH. Eventually I took their instructor training and I was on my way. Now after 25 years of private practice in Natural Healing I still find that I am using the applied kinesiology that I learned in this book. Even though I have gone on to advanced formal trainings and studied in many countries around the world, I can still recommend this book for people who want to learn a lot about self care from a single book.
Several methods of treatment are covered including meridian therapy, stimulation of neuro-vascular points, neuro-lymphatic points and acupressure. You will find that many of the techniques shown can be utilized immediately for your health and the health of your family.
One caution: This book has a tremendous amount of information packed in very concisely. It may lead you to additional studies for the rest of your life. I hope it does. It did for me.

A must have for your Massage Colection

I am currently enrolled in massage school, and because I love books so much I am thrilled when a new required book is added to the list. As we are learning accupressure in our school, this book is a major reference point, as it is for most schools, I believe. Yet the instructions and explanations are precise enough that anyone could use this book if they are interested in this work. With a back ground in energy work or cranialsacral this will expand your knowledge immensely.
My one and only hang up; I don't really care for the pictures. While they are fine pictures of procedure, they seem to be taken from an original idea that happened in the 70's or something, and I feel it detracts from the modern, educational feel of the book, but in no way does it compromise the information- which is vast!
Also included are great protocol tips, an extensive bibliography and suggested reading list and good anatomy diagrams. Information is presented in a nice sized text, in easy column format with room for highlighting and notes, if needed. As far as information and diagrams go, this book has everything you need for accupressure!
