The story of a land - El Chiapas - and the story of a woman - Camila - meet each other in a novel where thematic balances and internal contrasts create a many-sided plot. A contrasted land, suffering, earlier, the aggressions of its conquerors and, today, the titanic ambitions of the last revolutionaries, represents the physical and political setting of the personal story of a woman,who finds herself to face her past and neglected origins in that remote place.
Camila, narrator of the story, portrays, with anthropological flavour and fascination, the markets, the colourful streets and dwellers of the solar and picturesque San Cristobal, whose magical power lies in its capacity of keeping its authenticity, after all...
Reina, attractive woman originally from Uruguay, old mate of Camila's mother, both committed in the political struggle against the dictatorship of Pinochet, carries on her revolution in San Cristobal, where she has settled herself together with a heterogeneous group of restless immigrants, each with a different story but same spirit.
The meeting with this land and this charismatic woman will represent for Camila the beginning of a sort of initiation process. Admiration on one hand, and repulsion on the other hand, are the contrasting feelings experienced by Camila towards this figure mirroring the ideals of her own mother, towards which she admits a sort of guilt complex to have avoided a political protest she did not share completely, by emigrating to America, and preferring to lead an ordinary but 'safe' life.
In this way the story is articulated on some contrasts: contrast between the rage amongst the guerrilla warfare and a sense of peace that place inspires; the intimate contrast hearth-consciousness in Camila; and, then, the fight natives-conquerors, revolutionaries-paramilitaries, mother-daughter, women-men, past-present, memory-reality...
All these internal and ancestral contrasts are happily orchestrated in a balanced novel, which avoids any classification (love story, politics, psychology, mystery and suspense meet each other in this corner of the world).
'Lo que esta in mi corazon' is the typical phrase used by the Mayan women to conclude their tales. Camila, like a Mayan story-teller, decides to tell a story (hers) containing other stories, and her new awareness. The insurrections, driven by the quasi-sacral figure of commander Marcos in Chiapas, the revolts in Chile and Cuba, the Mayan legends and rituals merge each other in a novel, which looses its socio-political coordination and ends up to acquire a mythical and timeless connotation.

Le doy cuatro estrellas a Marcela Serrano porque su libro esta bien escrito y documentado, con una trama agil e interesante, aunque con muchos cabos sueltos.
Toca el tema del conflicto armado con mucho respeto, tratando de no adoptar posiciones extremas, dando el punto de vista del extranjero observador, pues al fin y al cabo, la presencia de extranjeros en esa zona ha sido constante, ya sea como observadores, periodistas o activistas en pro del zapatismo.
Es un buen libro para las personas que como yo, no somos expertas en el tema. Te da una idea general de los principales "bandos" y algunos de sus objetivos. Pero estoy segura de que a un experto en el tema, el libro le dejaria mucho que desear.
No le doy cinco estrellas porque en realidad su analisis sobre el zapatismo es muy, muy femenino (como en todas sus obras), y en esta lucha tambien hay muchos hombres.
En conclusion, me gusto el libro porque esta bien escrito, la historia es buena y nos da al publico general una "embarradita" de lo que es el zapatismo y en general, la lucha armada en latinoamerica por una mejor vida para las clases en desventaja.

introduction to the Buddha's thoughts&pragmatic application

The author has a deep understanding and comprehensive knowledge of the buddha's teachings. He approaches such an understanding by identifying then exiting social and philosophical problems in India. With his proper interpretation of some major Western thinkers, Dalupahana makes it easier to compare the ethical theories and draw the generalization for practical application. However, as he admits, the arugement. as he presented, for moral life is still weak for moral skeptic (p. 108). The rarity of human life still depends on the premise of rebirth and its consequences. I wish the author has used and compared the Platonic argument for moral life with the Buddha's. Overall, Kalupahana makes a great contribution to the understanding of the "heart" of the buddhist thoughts. It would be even a greater contribution should he venture into contemporary buddhist ethics.

An ESSENTIAL book for 12 Step Recovery

This should be a required text for 6th & 7th Step work! This book is very user-friendly and easily comprehended by those who are new to recovery. I truly believe that the instructions contained within the "Big Book" are absolutely essential for recovery. However, I also find it is very deceptive in it's brief and concise explanation of the 6th & 7th steps... as if to suggest they don't need as much attention. Therefore, I have noticed that these two steps are often completed in the time it takes to read the two short paragraphs in the Big Book. Fortunately, there is more instruction and discussion in the "12 & 12", however, the language and metaphor are often quite challenging for those who are new to recovery. That's where this book comes to the rescue! This book walks you through the thought processes of recognizing, identifying and eliminating those defects of character or "shortcomings" which cause us to remain unhappy, unsatisfied and unsuccessful in life. This book provides a fresh and in-depth look at steps 6 & 7 in way that anyone can understand. I have found it to be effective in helping the newcomer to identify the underlying fears with cause the defects of character to activate, so that they may learn the skill of NOT "stepping on the toes of their fellows" and thus, create more harmony in their lives and relationships with others. I highly recommend this book as an essential supplement to the Big Book & 12 & 12 when working steps 6 & 7.

Spiritaulity on the Graduate Level

Bill Wilson referred to AA as a 'Spiritual Kindergarten'. If that is so, then the material in 'Drop The Rock' is for those of us at the Masters or Doctoral level.

This book is NOT for the newcomer. Nor is it for those who are blissfully filling their days by 'not drinking and going to meetings'. 'Drop The Rock' is clearly targeted at those who have been sober for some time, but find there are still persistent annoying life problems that resist the all the work one has put into fixing these flaws.

This book is short, concise and to the point. The authors have left out much of the new-agey recovery jargon and slogans that weighs down most meetings. Instead, they approach Steps 6&7 from a practical and logical perspective which demystifies the two steps on which so much of our future happiness hangs.

It is an excellent book. One which you could build a meeting or study group around. However, the book is not for everyone. 'Drop The Rock' is only for those who know the intense hunger of desiring real change in life.

Helps with the 'weight" ;)

I am a grateful 12-stepping person. I recognized my need for coaching as I've floundered a bit even with sponsor help. I Googled "6th step" and this was a found treasure. It is good for me as I've been in a program for three years now and able to more honestly take action to heal. I read one review that suggests this book could be a bit too much for a newer 12-stepping person... This may be so. For me I had to come to know myself enough to see I needed such a tool...

And what this book does is provoke a deeper self-awareness. Am I still under the weight of 'rocks' that I cling too and which limit my reaching a new platform of peace in my life? Have I been willing to do my part in changing what I can? Do I expect my HP to do it ALL for me...like remove a limiting habit...yet I embrace it so darn fervently? Can I logically expect my HP to override my will? I need to do my part... And thus goes the 12-stepped baseD discussion of changing myself... Of the classic "3-A's" of awareness, acceptance and action.

I credit this book as a vehicle that is helping me motivate myself to drop the rocks and to BE WILLING to have my HP remove the layers of gnarly sediment that has hidden the buoyant soul...I am suggesting a buyer consider buying too "Fearless Relationships" by Karen Casey as this book motivates and challenges me to think differently and be willing to act-as-if....but Casey's book provides a more 'how-to-do-it'...and reading them combined ( and rereading) has been good.

Practice tests galore

This is a great LSAT practice guide. It contains 71 REAL and RECENT LSAT tests. Great resource and gives you plenty of practice. But, it does not explain strategies as to how to tackle different types of questions, you really need an additional study guide to learn the best strategies to tacking the test. I didn’t have any issues with the reading comprehension or logical reasoning sections, but I really needed extra help with the logic games sections. I got the Powerscore Logic Games Bible, an amazing resource and it really helped me get over the hump with the Logic Games. Powerscore also makes the same guides for the other sections of the LSAT if you have issues with those sections. Another great study aid that really helped me with the LSAT is Neutropix – Support Brain Function, Memory, Attention Span, Concentration & Clarity it is an amazing supplement that enhances your memory, focus and cognition, great for studying.

If you're studying for the LSAT, you need to get this book. There's not much else to say. There are 71 official LSAT preptests. This book has the ten most recent preptests. The LSAT has changed over time, so these are the most representative tests you'll find, anywhere.

Other prep books often do not use real LSAT questions. This book has nothing but real LSAT questions. Practicing using the real thing is the best way to get ready for test day. Along with this book, you should also get:

10 New Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests
The Next 10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests (Lsat Series)

Those two books contain LSAT preptests 29-38 and 52-61. Between the three books, you'll have 30 official practice exams, which is more than enough.

This is a great supplemental resource, but it shouldn't be used alone.

This book is a great resource, however, it is only effective once you know how to tackle the questions. When I purchased this book I was unaware of how to go about studying for the LSAT and I figured the best course of action was to expose myself to the actual test. Within a few days of using the book I realized that unless you know how to solve the problems presented, you're just spinning your wheels. I ended up buying the Powerscore LSAT Logic Games Bible which really helped me to understand the questions and how to solve them. Only then did this book become effective. Overall, I don't feel that anyone studying for the LSAT should buy this book alone and feel that they will be prepared for the exam.

Yes, I liked the book, Los Doce del Nacimiento. I wish I was able to find more, in good condition. I am taking them to children in El Salvador and Honduras as part of my Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos trip, to visit my two God children, in El Salvador. I believe it is the perfect book to read and then give, to let them know they are treasured as well to believe and hope in their future. Their beginning may have been rough but they have the chance, with NPH, to dream and be successful.

4 Stars for content. Like 2 stars for kindle e-book version. The inability to copy and paste quotes (or questions to place into a word document) is beyond annoying. The lack of page numbers makes locating assignments a ridiculous chore. I will pay $5-$10 more for the VitalSource version next time which not only allows me to copy and paste, but provides me with a citation as well. Also, VitalSource includes page numbers. This was the first and last time I will use Amazon for an e-textbook, very sorry to say.

This book is very comprehensive and covers various management topics in health care. I appreciated a lot the strategic management chapters of the book. I highly recommend it if you like to broaden your horizon in health care. The book also allows to get more insight in various fields through the more illustrative chapters.

ACERCA DEL AUTOR Carlos Wilkins Mercedes Raposo (pupilo) hijo de la señora Zacarías Raposo de Mota y el señor Carlos mercedes. Nació el 17 de enero de 1990 en la Romana, cuidad donde termina su bachiller en el liceo Paulina Giménez en el 2007. En el año 2012 ingresa a la universidad Dominicana O&M (Organización Y Método), donde estudia la carrera de licenciatura en contabilidad. Desde muy pequeño se le despertó un interés por la escritura y las artes literarias y comienza sus primeros escritos durante el bachillerato, los cuales corrieron con la mala suerte de extraviarse y su pasión por la escritura se apaga. Varios anos después ya en la universidad, durante sus estudios la Lic. Altagracia Ditren (quien le impartió la materia de lengua española lll), le motiva a escribir nuevamente y comienza posterior a la producción de sus escritos, luego comienza a compartir sus versos con sus compañeros de universidad y es cuando le surge la idea de escribir su primer libro.

Extremely comprehensive but could use more practice questions

This book systematically organizes every GMAT CR question type into "families," with each family possessing its own set of characteristics. Such an organization facilitates a better understanding of each question type because you know what to look for after you finish reading each question. I've gone through the book once already but am going through it one more time to make sure I really absorb the material.

Also, the book actually breaks down the concept of an argument and helps you understand the building blocks of an argument in order to be able to attack any question by following the same rules. There's no discussion of cheap tricks to try to find correct answers. This book is an absolute must if you hope to master critical reasoning on the GMAT. It's especially helpful for people like me who are weak in this part of the verbal section because you are given a step-by-step process for approaching every question. Despite the differences in question types, almost every question can be attacked in a similar manner. So it's good to see a book that focuses on the fundamentals of argumentation.

The only reason I knocked off one star is because this book could use some more practice questions. There are 50 practice questions, but I don't feel like that's enough. This book should be used in conjunction with the Official Guide.

Ultimate Answer to Your Critical Reasoning Needs

==== 2015 UPDATE ====
Powerscore released a new 2015 edition of the book. It has had some updates - several chapters have been completely updated with new overview, examples and new problem sets. Navigation has also been improved. It has grown too by about 70 pages (in part due to having more white space and in part due to content). Not a light book at 370 pages but definitely very very comprehensive overview of pretty much everything. Don't expect to see too much fluff, the book gets right to it. Though after MGMAT has improved their CR book (currently in its 6th edition), I would have given this book 3-4 stars, the latest revision seems to provide a good alternative to the Veritas Prep/MGMAT books.

==== 2009 Review ====
Though pretty similar to Manhattan GMAT book, it offers more practice questions in the book and has a slightly better overview of the Critical Reasoning questions.

~~~ Strengths: ~~~
1. In-depth overview of the Critical Reasoning strategies and approaches to questions
2. Clearly divides the CR question types and provides specific strategy for each type as well as the pitfalls and common errors. You will also get to know how the CR questions are made.
3. Good quality GMAT-like practice questions
4. Created by the authors of the best LSAT books (LSAT logic section is much harder than CR on the GMAT; there is actually a decent amoount of overlap in this book with the LSAT book). Speaking of which, for extra hardcore (and absolutely not necessary but still), you can get the PowerScore LR book (comes with quite a few LSAT questions)

~~~ Weaknesses: ~~~
1. Could use more practice questions (more than mgmat though); you will need to find another source of CR questions such as GMAT Official guide 12 or the verbal supplement to the Official Guide (though the verbal OG has questions on the easier side)
2. Some explanations are too convoluted
3. No tests or online excercises/additional content

~~~~ My Suggestions ~~~~
- Read explanations to every question. Even if you got a question right, it does not mean, you solved it correctly (that is you used the correct approach or found all the shortcusts). You will be surpised sometimes and will pick up helpful tips even from explanations of questions you answered correctly
- Follow the actual strategies (DUH). This is probably the most common mistake people make - they start inventing their own approaches. Don't do it until you have a high verbal score. If you don't, just follow!
- If you don't have any Manhattan GMAT books, you want to get at least one, as each comes with access to 6 online CAT tests (these tests are worth the purchase). There is not a whole lot of value to get both Powerscore CR and MGMAT CR; the content is by large the same.
